Whistleblower Protection Policy

Purpose

The Idaho Veterans Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Officers, also known as the Board, has a duty of care and adopts the following policy in order to comply with federal law. The Board encourages any staff member or volunteer to bring instances of improper conduct, such as waste, fraud, financial impropriety or abuse to the attention of a responsible person who can be counted upon to investigate the problem promptly and fairly.

This policy will be reviewed annually and amended as needed.

 

I. PROTECTION FROM RETALIATION

Any Board member to include a director, officer, member, or volunteer who reports waste, fraud, financial impropriety or abuse will not be retaliated against for making the report. Such person shall not be subject to any punishment, including removal or suspension from the organization, reprimand, harassment, or any other kind of discrimination, in retaliation for making the report.

 

II. REPORTING

To make a confidential - and anonymous if so desired - report of suspected waste, fraud, and/or abuse, contact the Board President through email, phone call, text message, letter, report or a face-to-face meeting. If the Board President is the subject of suspected abuse, contact the Board President Chair or Next Board of Directors in the Chain of Command.

 

III. INVESTIGATION AND FOLLOW-ON ACTIONS

All reports shall be investigated immediately. The Board will assign the investigation to Board members or, should the situation warrant, an independent investigator. The person or persons charged with alleged impropriety shall be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations in person or in writing.

 

Following the investigation, the Board will perform some or all of the following:

a. Provide the person filing and the accused with a report with a summary of the findings.

b. Take appropriate steps to deal with the issue addressed, including making operational or personnel changes, or justify why corrections are not necessary.

c. If warranted, contact law enforcement to deal with any suspected criminal activities.

d. Maintain confidential records of all actions taken under this policy.

 

The Whistleblower Policy is here by adopted by the Idaho Veterans Chamber of Commerce, Inc. on January 18, 2021 and will be edited and modified by the Board of Directors on an as needed basis.
