What is the Ellis Family Home Repair Project?
The Ellis' family home was destroyed by a fire. The family received funding from insurance to repair the home.
They have remained displaced while their home sits unfinished. A previous construction arrangement ended before the work was completed, after substantial insurance proceeds had already been expended. The home remains uninhabitable, and the available insurance funds are depleted.
The Ellis family has been since been forced to rent a separate home, commuting daily and working multiple jobs to cover costs while the property deteriorates.
They support FFA activities, care for their farm animals, and create opportunities for veterans through veteran hunting experiences. Now, Idaho's community is coming together to help them finally return home.
Latest Project Update 9/26
Drywall Reinstallation
Project Plan for 10/10/2026
Winter is approaching, and IDVCC’s priority is protecting this veteran family’s home from the weather while continuing work inside.
Our next workday is October 10, from 8 AM–1 PM, with siding, concrete removal, and drywall planned, depending on confirmed trade support and materials.
Your time, expertise, equipment, or donation can help!
Here’s what we need:
-
Siding: Volunteers to assist Joe with installation, moving materials, and exterior tasks.
-
Drywall: Experienced hangers and tapers, plus volunteers to help with mudding and preparation.
-
Equipment to borrow: An indoor wheeled Baker scaffold and drywall taping tools.
-
Concrete: A contractor to saw-cut the sidewalk beside the house—or a concrete saw we can borrow. Once cutting is complete, we’ll need help removing and hauling the concrete.
-
Debris disposal: A donated dumpster or hauling support.
-
Helping hands: You don’t need construction experience! Let us know your skills so we can match you with a task.
Ready to help? Comment or message us with your available hours and any tools, equipment, expertise, or contractor connections you can offer. We’ll confirm assignments and property directions before the workday. Please coordinate concrete cutting with us before scheduling so we can work with the homeowner.
Upcoming workdays: October 10 & 24 • November 7 & 21 • December 5 & 19
